EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

EVERLAST KOREA is proud to present an exclusive interview with the encapsulating and boundlessly new female group, cosmosy! On Tuesday, December 31, 2024, cosmosy stepped into the global pop scene with a pre-release of their official music video for their 1st Digital Single titled, “zigy=zigy.” After amassing 10M+ views on their official music video on YouTube and gaining over 117,000 global followers across their social media platforms to date, let’s dive more into finding out who cosmosy is with the members themselves! After chatting with EVERLAST KOREA, cosmosy reflects on their trainee days, the members share more details and insights about who they are and what they strive to become, as well as discussing what it meant to officially debut as artists and what they hope to achieve in the future.

THIS IS COSMOSY

Consisting of four members, himesha, de_hana, kamión, and a’mei, cosmosy is a newly debuted female group made up of all Japanese members, who have trained in South Korea, and record music in Korean, English, and Japanese. Prior to the group’s official debut, de_hana and kamión gained valuable experience as trainees after participating in Produce 101 Japan The Girls (a localized spin-off of South Korea’s hit television program), while himesha and a’mei gained immense dance experience over the years since their childhood. After putting these talented trainees together to make a uniquely-styled quartet, cosmosy debuted on December 31, 2024, with the release of their 1st Digital Single titled, “zigy=zigy.” The group’s name, “cosmosy,” symbolizes the “possibilities of youth” and the “infinity of the cosmos,” reflecting their mission to explore limitless potential and growth.

Under the record label, Sony Music Entertainment Korea, and the management company, NTT Docomo Studio & Live, cosmosy made headlines across mainstream media and also made a big impression with music listeners worldwide after making their official debut. With the help of cosmosy’s creative team consisting of SINXITY (a former Executive at YG Entertainment and the former Creative Director for acts like BLACKPINK), AMPLIFIED Corporation (a publishing and A&R company based in South Korea), and Citizen of Cosmos (a Music Producer), this allowed the group to authentically showcase each members’ charms, talents, and strengths, as well as display the group’s potential to become a well-established global act.

In a Billboard exclusive interview written by Jeff Benjamin, SINXITY shared, “I really want to open up a new path for the girls, and for them to be able to do a lot of different genres and try different concepts… Inevitably, people are gonna compare the girls to groups like XG, NiziU, and the other Japanese girl groups, but I want to do something for them that is new and different. Whether it’s K-pop, J-pop, pop, hip-hop, R&B, I want to incorporate various music genres and create a new path for them.” Overall, since cosmosy’s official debut, the group has showcased great potential in performing on the global stage, and their fan-base is already looking forward to what’s next for the group. Entering their first year as newly debuted artists, it will be an exciting journey for the members and their fans, as they continue to reveal their talents, display their charms, and release new music to listeners and audiences worldwide.

HELLO, WE ARE COSMOSY

EVERLAST KOREA: With music listeners worldwide, as well as the fans who have been following you since pre-debut, as they continue to get to know all of you as the members of cosmosy, can you briefly talk about what made you become a trainee in the first place, what helped you make the decision to train in South Korea, and what motivated all of you to keep pursuing your dreams to debut as part of an all-female group?

cosmosy: I think the reason we decided to become trainees was already explained in our previous answers! As for why we chose to train in Korea, we wanted to grow in an environment that has produced artists with a global reach.

EVERLAST KOREA: As soon as it was announced that all of you would be debuting under the same group, it must have been a very exciting and emotional moment for all of you. Can you please explain how you all felt knowing you would be debuting, how the name cosmosy came to be, and what it means to officially debut by each other’s sides?

kamión: It felt like I finally achieved my long-term goal! After being on a survival show and not being able to officially debut, I felt lost for a long period of time. When the opportunity to audition came in, I was nervous and ecstatic. I’m very thankful to be able to debut as “cosmosy” with such talented members.

a’mei: I was truly happy, and at the same time, I made a firm resolution to take on the global stage with the best members by my side.

EVERLAST KOREA: In a Billboard interview with SINXITY, he stated that all of your “...natural talents should be what’s emphasized,” and in your press release, it was stated that your group “...aims to inspire young fans worldwide by embracing cultural diversity, self-expression, and boundless creativity.” In your own words, through your music, and even how you will engage with fans worldwide, what do all of you hope to convey to the world as cosmosy?

cosmosy: We want to share limitless possibilities, bright energy, and a positive influence.

EVERLAST KOREA: As your group enters its rookie and first year as an active act, what are some goals or milestones that all of you would like to accomplish in the future, and what do you strive for cosmosy to become within the global music industry at large?

cosmosy: A goal for all of us is appearing on music shows in both Japan and Korea. We want to become a group that connects with even more people across generations and countries through music.

1ST DIGITAL SINGLE: “ZIGY=ZIGY”

EVERLAST KOREA: Congratulations on officially debuting, as well as releasing your 1st Digital Single, “zigy=zigy!” Your group’s debut was really strong, and it impressed many people around the world from both the fandom and industry perspective. What was the process like preparing for not just your first music release, but preparing for your debut activities and promotions?

himesha: Everything was a first-time experience, so there were many challenges, but I feel a sense of accomplishment knowing that the four of us have worked hard together.

de_hana: There were many tough days, but the four of us stuck together and worked through our difficulties to help each other become better on a daily basis.

EVERLAST KOREA: Let’s finally talk about your Debut Track, “zigy=zigy.” This song is catchy, has a mixture of genres and cultural elements, and it's recorded in Korean, English, and Japanese. What was it like working on this single, did the members participate behind-the-scenes, and how does this particular track best showcase cosmosy as a group and potential global act?

kamión: I remember how much effort we put into the preparation process, with the lyrics and choreography being revised multiple times. I also recall how much fun we had recording the ad-libs together in the booth for the dialogue at the beginning and end of the music video.

a’mei: Since the lyrics are in three languages, I hope people see this as a sign of our global potential, allowing us to connect with even more people around the world.

EVERLAST KOREA: The music video for “zigy=zigy” was creatively unique and utilized visual effects and animations to better emphasize the individuality and identity of cosmosy as a whole, as well as showcasing the charms and personalities for each of the members. Can all of you provide more in-depth details of what the music video or the track itself was trying to convey message-wise, and what were your favorite parts of the music video that resonated with what you were trying to portray the most about yourself as a cosmosy member?

cosmosy: The lyric, "헤어지기=지기 싫어," expresses the feeling of not wanting to break up, but it can also be interpreted freely as, "I don’t want to lose." I hope the listeners can take it as a message of not wanting to give up in this world and to find the courage to push forward.

kamión: My favorite part is the bridge, "기억나니~" (Do you remember?) It really stands out to me!

a’mei: I love the first chorus, "Baby I hate it." That part is definitely my favorite!

himesha: For me, the moment at the end where we perform the choreography with the mega crew really captures the essence of cosmosy.

de_hana: The dance section during "知らない聞こえない" (I don't know, I can't hear), especially the isolation moves is my favorite. It’s such a powerful moment!

EVERLAST KOREA: What were some challenging moments that all of you are proud to have gotten through or memorable moments that hold special meaning to you, after putting in all your hard work and dedication of your time, plus efforts, to prepare for your official debut and first-ever music release?

himesha: I thought I knew myself well, but I realized there were many things I didn’t know about myself. This applies to my personality as well, and I felt that, “I can express myself like this.” I also believe I can do even more, so I’m really looking forward to meeting different versions of myself in the future!

de_hana: During our trainee and preparation period, we had an intensive dance camp in Tokyo. Through that experience, our dance skills improved significantly, and it was a moment of great pride for us.

LAUNCHING AN INTERNATIONAL CAREER

EVERLAST KOREA: As all of you collectively begin new chapters in your lives, since your group has officially debuted as artists, it will be important that all of you stick together through thick and thin. There may be some ups, there may be some downs, but at the end of the day, you all will have each other. What are three values that each of you treasure the most when it comes to further building and developing your group's bond and amongst one another?

cosmosy: A heart of consideration, a heart of gratitude, and a heart of kindness.

EVERLAST KOREA: As all of you further showcase what cosmosy is all about, and as a whole, find that distinct sound that can be labeled as “that’s cosmosy,” what genres of music do all of you listen to currently, and are there any specific albums or artists who have and/or continue to inspire you as an artist or help you envision on the type of artist you want to become in the future?

himesha: Lately, I've been enjoying R&B, and the album that inspired me the most is R by BLACKPINK’s Rosé.

de_hana: I love listening to pop, and the artist who has inspired me the most is SZA.

kamión: I’ve been listening to a lot of jazz and classical music, and the artist who has influenced me the most is Fujii Kaze.

a’mei: I've been into hip-hop and rap recently, and the artist who has inspired me the most is Doechii.

EVERLAST KOREA: In the Billboard interview we mentioned earlier, SINXITY mentioned, “...the next, urgent priority is to meet fans in person.” Having this sense of urgency for your group to meet with fans in person as soon as possible can make a more impactful connection between you and your fandom worldwide. If you could plan the most ideal day out to spend quality time with your fans in person, what would you like to do with them?

cosmosy: Since strawberries are in season right now, we want to go strawberry-picking! Then we can go on a bus tour with everyone and visit many popular locations, followed by a lively party in the evening to celebrate!

EVERLAST KOREA: As many of your fans worldwide are rooting for you, supporting you, and are eager to see more of what your group has in store in the future, all of you must have your own goals, dreams, and accomplishments that you want to achieve in the future. So, if you could tell your future self (5 years from now) something that is meaningful to you now or what you hope to achieve in the years to come, what would you like to say to yourself?

himesha: “Have I become a brand ambassador?”

de_hana: “Am I thriving globally as a member of cosmosy?”

kamión: “Am I making my parents proud?”

a’mei: “Am I… happy right now?”

HERE’S TO THE FUTURE

EVERLAST KOREA: Now that we are a few months into 2025, what are some goals that you would like to accomplish this year or what are all of your current motivations to make your first year as newly debuted artists the best year it can be?

cosmosy: Our goal is to perform on music shows in both Japan and Korea!

himesha: Collaborating with a brand.

de_hana: Collaborating on theme songs for anime and other projects.

kamión: Appearing on a magazine cover.

a’mei: Skill up! I want to improve my skills in all aspects like singing, dancing, acting and more!

EVERLAST KOREA: Now that you have reflected on your experiences from your trainee days to making your official debut, what are the next steps for all of you as you continue to further develop your group’s name and career within the global music industry at large?

kamión: Since we've only released a digital single so far, we believe the next step is to release a full physical album!

a’mei: Our next steps are definitely to release more digital singles, a full album, and to meet our fans!

EVERLAST KOREA: It was mentioned that your group will release new content, as well as release more digital singles, and eventually an EP potentially this coming Spring. Are there any specific details about or other upcoming activities and/or promotions that you can share with your fans and EVERLASTERS, in which they can look forward to seeing more from your group in the near future?

cosmosy: We're preparing our next release for this spring, so we hope you'll look forward to it and send us your warm support! We also have a lot of upcoming content planned, so don’t forget to check out our socials!

EVERLAST KOREA: As always, we want to end our exclusive interviews with a question that caters to your dedicated fan-base! What have your fans meant to you so far, especially the fans who have followed you since pre-debut, and on top of seeing how many global fans are cheering you on by supporting your first music release?

cosmosy: We’re always so grateful. Our fans are the driving force behind cosmosy. We’ll continue to expand our activities and work hard. Please keep supporting us in the future! We hope to meet you all soon!
