EVERLAST KOREA is proud to present an exclusive interview with Universal Music Korea! Since it’s finally the season of summer, it’s time for some good music, great company, and a lot of positive vibes. So, what’s a better way to start off one’s summer than with an affordable and exclusive online concert? Yes, a few genre-defying artists under Universal Music Korea, and the cultural platform, STRAW MUSIC, have teamed up together to create this year's summer online concert event, POPS OF SEOUL! Four artists with four different vibes will be performing at POPS OF SEOUL on Sunday, June 20, 2021 at 7:00 PM KST.
Debating on whether or not to purchase tickets? No need to worry! Here is an insider interview with the Universal Music Korea Staff Members, as they explain what audiences can look forward to with their upcoming online concert, as well as provide newcomers a glimpse of what Universal Music Korea’s artists are all about.

From sunset to sundown, YOUHA, LUAMEL, 1415, and SAAY will be performing their very own songs in accordance with the night skies of Seoul. The overall ambiance will make K-Pop fans rethink about their K-Pop music experience. From alternative rock sounds to refreshing pop styles, there are many things to look forward to during this POPS OF SEOUL online concert. Whether one is already a fan of an artist performing or one who is discovering new artists to listen to, anyone who attends this online concert will be able to enjoy entertaining stages, while also experiencing those positive Seoul-summer vibes with fellow concert-goers.

EVERLAST KOREA: First off, congratulations on announcing your upcoming event! It seems like POPS OF SEOUL is really trying to redefine the online concert experience. With that being said, how did this virtual concert come about? Especially, when the four artists set to perform have their own unique sounds and vibes as musicians.
Universal Music Korea: POPS OF SEOUL was made with the intention of bringing diverse colors of K-Pop music to people around the world. Especially, when it comes to the word “K-Pop,” it is very easy to think that specific types of songs represent the whole genre. With this concert having four artists performing with his/her unique style, we wanted to show that there are other kinds of K-Pop songs out there that have been influenced by many music genres from around the world.
EVERLAST KOREA: It’s awesome that your team wants to showcase different sides of the K-Pop genre! By allowing different artists to showcase their uniqueness, it will provide fans an entertaining show to watch and experience. Since each artist has their own unique style, how did your team ideate the main theme and concept behind POPS OF SEOUL, and how does it coincide with the four artists that will be performing?
Universal Music Korea: The main theme behind POPS OF SEOUL is to showcase Seoul's mid-summer vibe through music. The entire concert will take place from sunset to sundown. Based on the weather and scenery, this will coincide with the four artists in a way that the background environment will match with the tune and harmony that each artist has as they perform on-stage.
EVERLAST KOREA: Wow, having the background environment match with the artists’ performance on-stage is a wonderful idea! It seems like that will really enhance the ambiance of the concert experience. So, besides the electric atmosphere that will be created for concert-goers, what can audiences also look forward to if they attend the POPS OF SEOUL online concert? Especially, if one may not be familiar with all of the artists performing.
Universal Music Korea: During the time of the pandemic, the most beneficial point of attending the POPS OF SEOUL concert would be that audiences worldwide could catch a glimpse of the Seoul-vibe through this event. This will act as a resolving point to craving that overseas travel experience. Furthermore, the point of not being familiar with the artist itself will not act as a barrier because in other words, it could also be a discovering point. As aforementioned, this will break the stereotype of K-Pop being a “music genre."
EVERLAST KOREA: While POPS OF SEOUL has many K-Pop fans raving online, showcasing their excitement for a brand new showcase, what do the Staff Members look forward to the most with this upcoming event? To put so much time and effort into planing and coordinating this project must have taken a lot of interest and passion from each team member.
Universal Music Korea: The concert staff is really excited! We are looking forward to these different styles of K-Pop music genres blending with one another throughout the stage and on a global platform. With this harmonization, Universal Music Korea looks forward to hearing that with the right match, a group concert is also possible.

EVERLAST KOREA: While many incoming or non K-Pop fans are familiar with idol groups and the big four agencies — BIGHIT MUSIC, YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and SM Entertainment — what can you tell K-Pop music fans about Universal Music Korea and its own artist lineup?
Universal Music Korea: Universal Music Korea's artists are indeed different from the existing K-Pop labels’ artists. While the K-Pop genre may have distinctive preferences, especially due to language barriers, Universal Music Korea artists could act as a bridge/gateway — starting from the familiarity with songs to the point of enjoying K-Pop styled music in general.
EVERLAST KOREA: It’s great that Universal Music Korea seeks to be a bridge or gateway for Korean artists to expand their brand and further grow their music careers! Now as Native Korean artists under Universal Music Korea create songs with different genres, what else makes Universal Music Korea a unique space for Korean artists to perform and grow their musical talents?
Universal Music Korea: The most unique and powerful point is that Universal Music Group has a powerful infrastructure to support singer-songwriter type of artists. As a Korean HQ office, this applies to Universal Music Korea as well. Artists and musicians could always knock on the company's door, should they wish to seek ways to distribute and publish their music.
EVERLAST KOREA: To have a powerful infrastructure to help singer-songwriters grow not just domestically, but internationally is such an amazing platform to have. As K-Pop fans start learning more about Universal Music Korea and its artist lineup, are there any special projects or events that will happen in the near future, which can help audiences get to know Universal Music Korea more?
